Certified Nia White Belt Teacher

Jinti in The Space Upstairs

My professional background is in drama education and drama and movement therapy in which I hold a Post Graduate degree. In childhood I wanted to dance but was not considered the ‘right’ height or shape for ballet which I longed to do. At college, having signed up to do dance as my special subject I was discouraged and steered towards drama instead.

When I found Nia I found a dance that was fun, accessible and accepting, no right or wrong here; a place for self expression, for health and fitness and most importantly a place for everybody no matter what age or stage. I want to share the joy of movement with others, best of all I get to dance – LOTS!

Karen Small

Certified Nia White Belt Teacher

When I went to my first Nia class in 2007 I had no idea what to expect - and could never have imagined that a few years later I would love it so much I'd be taking the class!

That first experience of Nia was enough to set me on a path of both personal and professional discovery, obtaining my White Belt in May 2009 and  teaching Nia in Fife since then.

Nia creates a space in which it is possible to 'switch off' from some of the pressures of everyday life and come back 'home'. It is both centering and liberating. One of the things I love best as a teacher is witnessing Nia's unique ability to adapt and respond to the individual - something I'd never experienced before in a fitness class.

Lin

I discovered Nia whilst recovering from a  hip replacement operation last year.  I was looking for something to bring more dance into my life again and a way to enable me to fulfil an ambition to bring it into my holistic health business www.sanas-ancientwisdom.co.uk.

The mission of Sanas-ancientwisdom is to enable people to feel the  wellbeing of uniting body mind and spirit. I have always felt that this is the path to real joy, peace and relaxation of the wholebeing. Discovering that Nia technique fitted with this in its philosophy was very exciting!

I have danced for many years experiencing many styles from contemporary to Gabrielle Roth’s 5 rhythms. I was lucky to be able do the White belt intensive in December 2010 and am very excited now to be able to share the joy of movement with others through Nia and to provide a space for people to find the real relaxation of body mind and spirit that it brings!

Kellie Currie

Certified Nia White Belt Teacher

I can't remember a time in my life when I didn't dance. Dance is my passion and my escapism. I have been teaching various styles of dance movement/pilates since 1995 and  I hadn't experienced true freedom with movement until my White Belt  training with Britta Von Tagen.

Nia dance feels natural to me. Nia is allowing me to free my body, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Moving with everyone in class is liberating. To trust and move with each other in such wild and wonderful ways is a gift. It’s beautiful watching  the Nia dance, it's so honest.

I have seen many dance techniques but the most beautiful for me is Nia. I'm so grateful I have found Nia and I now can't imagine my life without it.  I hope you can make it along to class with me sometime, classes are drop in and you don't need any previous experience to join in.  Come along anytime.  I look forward to dancing with you soon.
